Forget New Year's resolutions and embrace real change for the New Year ahead

Do you make well intentioned resolutions for the New Year, but come February you’ve either forgotten them, or end up feeling guilty because you didn’t stick to them?   You are not alone; I think it would apply to most of us.   Nevertheless, the beginning of a new year with all the potential and possibilities that lie ahead is a good time to stop and take stock of where we are in life.   Instead of making resolutions, here are a few suggestions to help you embrace the changes you would like to make in the year ahead. I’m thinking how impossible it is to shop at this time of year without hearing Christmas jingles in every store.  It’s all about being merry, happy and bright…right?  Well if the only thought that Christmas conjures up for you is stress, stress and more stress, here are some good tips for surviving. Let go of expectations There is no such thing as the perfect Christmas; no matter how much social media would have you believe is possible with a bit of effort on your behalf. So if you’re feeling the pressure to ‘get it right’ by finding the right gift or cooking the perfect Christmas meal, try to let go of those expectations.  When your focus is on getting everything ‘perfect’ it’s hard to relax and have fun and you’re setting yourself up for stress.   Don’t lose your sense of humour We’ve all got a difficult relative or two.  When getting together with friends and family, stay away from topics you know will lead to heated discussions. Hello I'm Lyn and I'm a Holistic Counsellor.  My passion is facilitating healing and wellbeing to people dealing with life's stressful demands. I am fascinated and curious about how people make sense of their world, especially in a time of stress.  I hold the strong belief that every person is to be valued and the body, mind and spirit is interconnected. As a result, there is no single approach that fits everyone. My skills include trauma and grief counselling, family therapy, existential counselling, meditation, visualisation, shiatsu, cranial sacral therapy and reiki. As an artist, intuitive, creative thinker and avid reader, I use my eclectic mix of skills and experiences to facilitate stress management workshops which are creative, experiential, interactive and informative.
